Suited & Welly-Booted

Imagine - there you are saying your vows with friends and family around you, wearing your dream wedding dress only to find upon leaving the church the lane from the church is completed submerged and you are marooned there!

That is exactly what happened to one bride, groom & 150 of their guests near Cheltenham. A local brook had burst it's banks during the service leaving them stranded for 7 hours! The couple and their guests had to make their way to higher ground and seek refuse in a local care home where they were served tea and sandwiches!

Thanks to their wedding insurance the couple - who are currently enjoying a 2 week honeymoon in the sun - are hoping to hold another reception when they get home!

Imagine a guest arriving early - a year early!

As unbelievable as it sounds that is exactly what happened when David Barclay left his home in Canada to attend his friend's wedding in Wales! David said:

"I booked my ticket, paid 500 pounds to fly into Cardiff, got the old suit cleaned, the goatee trimmed, the head shaved -- I was going to be the belle of the ball," (source: yahoo news)

How embarassing that must have been! Do you have any embarassing wedding stories to tell? If so, drop us a line and we will add them to our Funny Wedding Stories page!

Would You Put Your Wedding Planning in the Hands of Your Family & Friends?

That's exactly what some couples who are appearing on "The Big Day" on BBC One have chosen to do.

They are not left completely in the lurch though they have expert advice on hand from the rather luscious Nick Knowles (though I think he is there more for eye candy purposes), top stylist Hannah Standing and wedding expert James Love.

This week's couple were from Blackpool and their friends and family chose to decorate a local community centre in the theme of a Las Vegas casino for their reception. The Groom looked very handsome in a purple velvet jacket chosen by the affore mentioned (luscious) Nick Knowles and the bride wore a 2nd hand wedding dress that had to be heavily tailored by a top designer in order to fit her tiny frame and be worthy of walking down the aisle in.

They had fish, chips and mushy peas for their wedding breakfast delivered to the venue by a local firm and the bride arrived at the church in a golden carriage pulled by a palamino horse.

What stood out for me was how creative people can be when budget is an issue. The table flowers were all placed in salt and pepper pots (no lids, obviously), the bar was covered in playing cards and covered in perspex and the venue looked fabulous. They also had a big band on the stage!

I thought it was lovely - really intimate! It will be interesting to see of subsequent weddings are as successful though!!!

Three Fat Brides, One Thin Dress - Gillian McKeith's

Gillian McKeith's new reign of terror begins this time on 3 brides to be! The program which started last week on Tuesday nights Channel 4, aims to help 3 "large girls" lose weight and compete to wear 1 thin wedding dress.

Who are the 3 mad women in question? Well they are Katrina who is described as "a binge-drinking, carb-craving 25-year-old Welsh WAG in waiting", Jacqueline - a 40 year old divorcee who they describe as having "an almost perfect life" apart from her weight issues and a "born-again Essex Virgin" called Lisa who is 27 years old.

The idea is that these three girls have just eight weeks in which to lose weight and improve their wellbeing and whoever achieves the best results wins the dream dress!

The lead up to a wedding is stressful enough - imagine having Gillian McKeith to contend with too! Do you think the desire to be thin on your big day would be enough to stop you from throwing in the towel or do you think the stress would just be too much to bear?
If you are a bride looking to lose weight before your big day you may be interested in Gillian McKeith's 11 week meal plan. If so you can find it here:
